F.A.Q FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

About Boom

Within the BOOM digital ecosystem, we create work opportunities for freelance photographers all over the world, accessible and manageable through a streamlined platform, which removes invoicing duties and post-production from their plate. Our network of freelance photographers works on photoshoots for international brands and companies who partner with BOOM to acquire visual content.

Our focus is primarily commercial photography, and our photoshoots are mainly in the fields of food delivery and real estate, but also e-commerce merchandise, fashion and home design. Mostly big players, so mostly big opportunities for you!

How BOOM Works

To work with us, all you have to do is apply as a photographer on our website, complete the test that will be handed to you soon after. If all goes well, you will join our list of photographers and will get assignments located in your neck of the woods.

You will be able to manage all projects through the platform. Once you insert your details and availability on the platform, you will be automatically assigned photoshoots when the place/date/time coincide with your data. All you’ll have to do is “accept” or “reject” the assignments before they expire, as well as their terms & conditions, and turn up at the given address on the right date/time. In addition, all updates and changes will be communicated through notifications on the platform.

Yes! Our photographer network includes professionals from all parts of our small, small world, but remember that the number of assignments you receive depends on the clients we have in that specific location, as some regions have a greater demand than others.

You need to take a test so that we, at BOOM, can secure the most skillful photographers; it is important for us to see if your technique responds to what we need when developing content for our clients. In other words, we know you’re good, we just want to make sure you are a right fit for our type of work!

We don’t hand out grades like you would on a high school exam. Your test will either be accepted or rejected. In other words, you’ll either get a “passing grade” or you won’t.

A  team of photography experts at BOOM will analyze your test and give you feedback and your results.

There is no getting around taking the test to complete your application. Your portfolio is useful too, but only during the initial step in your application process when we’re still in a “getting-to-know-you” phase. By the time you take the test we already know you’re good, we just want to see if you are a right fit and if you can take pictures compliant with brand guidelines.

The collaboration is completely free of charge. No fees whatsoever!

Collaboration Opportunities

BOOM hands out assignments and the number of photoshoots you can count on will greatly depend on your location and our clients’ demands. BOOM takes care of everything except the actual snapping of pictures. In other words, you do the fun part and leave the rest to us.

BOOM allows you to concentrate on snapping the pictures, while we take care of everything else. The platform automatically assigns photoshoots to you, depending on your availability, and allows you to upload all your work on it after completion. No muss no fuss!

The number of assignments depends on a number of factors: location, clients’ needs, and projects available. While the number of photoshoots can vary, we cannot guarantee a minimum per month.

For every assignment, you will receive a notification describing the type of photoshoot and the details (client name, address, guidelines…). You can accept or reject it based on your availability. All you’ll have to do is show up at the location on the right date/time and snap the pictures according to our previously shared guidelines. Right after the photoshoot, you’ll upload the visuals onto the platform and let us take care of post-production.

Of course you can. You are definitely free to accept or reject every assignment sent your way. You’re free to call the shots! Just remember that declining assignments might decrease your chances of getting work.

Yes, we only work with professional photographers with prior experience in the field of commercial photography.

Assignments with BOOM are occasional and the contract is not exclusive, so you may definitely work for other clients or projects when you aren’t committed to a BOOM assignment.

The photo’s copyrights belong to BOOM, so you cannot get credit for the photos published since any assignment you take on aims at providing content for commercial purposes only.

No, you may not share the official pictures on your social pictures/owned properties without BOOM’s permission, unless they are part of a password-protected digital portfolio, or if it’s a link to the client’s website. In any case, we’d be happy to discuss your options should you need to share your work. Also, feel free to share the behind-the-scenes snaps on your Instagram page, as long as the client isn’t tagged or recognizable (brand logo, iconic landmarks etc) and we’ll be happy to repost them on our own page – we love to see photographers in their element!

Payment and Conditions

Payment depends on your country, type of photoshoot and client. Since we take care of absolutely everything except the actual photoshoot (finding clients, photoshoot logistics, post-production…) you’ll have more chances of accumulating photoshoots, hence the lucrative aspect of working with BOOM.

Payment methods vary depending on country/region but it is most often through a monthly payment accumulating all your photoshoot compensations, with money transferred to a bank account. When you work at BOOM, you get paid once a month, with an amount that encompasses all the work you’ve done the previous month.

Compensation varies depending on the geographic location and client, as well as the number of pictures required, so the hourly rate will vary from project to project.

As a freelancer, you are usually expected to cover travel costs but we make an exception when assignments take you to travel further than a 25 km radius, with a lump sum reimbursement for the entire journey

Compensation rates are set, and so photographers who work with us can accept these conditions or pass. However, we do make it a point to treat photographers fairly and respectfully.

Equipment

Photographers need to be fully equipped to work with us. Our assignments usually require a professional DSLR or a mirrorless camera with a lens. Should you not have the exact equipment requested for a particular photoshoot, it is up to you to reject the assignment. Don’t worry about having to reject something, other opportunities will come along and make up for it!
