Travelling around the world and engaging with distributors, resellers and their customers provides us with a powerful insight into what’s happening in the market - and how Boom is best placed to reshape the latest trends and issues.
What we’re learning out on the road more and more is how simplicity is the route to success.
The video conferencing landscape is changing — and it’s clear that simplicity is the new standard. We say this a lot and it’s one of the biggest messages we’re discovering when meeting partners and customers across the globe. Don’t overcomplicate, don’t over spec and don’t over sell. Less can be more!
People want everything to be simple. They expect their video conferencing experiences to be easy and user-friendly based on the ability to just plug in and go. I'm hearing this from not just resellers and installers, but also end users. For too many, they've realized that the equipment they have today and the way they're entering into their meetings is too often too complicated – and requires too much on-site support for every little get-together. That’s true for large multi-site enterprises as well as smaller organizations and local businesses like retail stores and insurance agencies.
Have your cake and eat it
Here at Boom we offer a wide range of innovative connectivity stations such as our ZYGO and ARC as well as a full range of cameras, videobars, audio, controllers and complete room kits.
We offer the best of both worlds, combining the advantages of Bring Your Own Meeting deployments with existing in-room systems. Organizations don't need to rip out their existing equipment and start again. Boom makes it easy to enhance existing setups without starting from scratch. It’s a have your cake and eat it approach.
Equally, ‘over speccing’ can be a big problem. Often, the newest systems that offer every bell and whistle, including multiple cameras and extensive automated controls, come with not only a high cost, but also a steep learning curve and ongoing investment in maintenance, licensing, and support.
For instance, we recently worked with a construction customer who needed a triple-screen layout to share building designs and collaborate with remote teams. They had implemented a complex system that required meeting room licensing, multiple adapters, and frequent monitoring, reboots, and troubleshooting. In reality, all they needed was a straightforward BYOM setup that allowed them to connect easily to all three displays. That’s exactly the type of space where our HALO videobar and ZYGO hub shine, delivering everything they need without unnecessary layers of complexity.
Exploitation
Is it a lack of knowledge or exploitation? Possibly a combination of the two. Too often rooms are specified on what an installer knows and what’s worked elsewhere. Room systems were initially seen as the holy grail and a must-have immediately after the pandemic when hybrid work exploded. But now BYOM and a vendor-agnostic approach can generally offer more.
You don’t need a room system everywhere. Maybe one in a flagship boardroom, but for all the other ones it should be one cable connection that's going to work across-the-board and do the job for everyone.
It just seems to be more and more we're hearing when comparing quotes and proposals it’s all over-specced like crazy. That's a strong message we definitely want to get out there.
When we started Boom we knew we needed to provide good quality products with great design. But above all it has to be simple to operate. That's the bottom line and the sweet spot. Without it problems emerge that shouldn't exist. Better meetings, simply is our DNA for a reason.
